Thx! As I've already said, for me it's not very difficult to succeed in good b&w's. First if you shoot with digital, try to save, if possible, in "raw", it's better for the postwork. Shoot in colour. Then try the beta of Adobe Lightroom, it's free for the moment on the Adobe Website, this software offers you some means to adjust conversion in b&w and contrasts. Then back to PS to crop, sharpen a bit and save. I don't use particular means to do my pics. But it's better to shoot when the sun is down, on morning or evening, better for the light, better for shadows, and better for contrasts. Try, and try... ;) Hope I was clear :)
